Five time All Star Nolan Ryan signed with the Houston Astros prior to the start of the 1980 season after seven seasons with the Angles and four with the Mets. In his debut with his new club the star pitcher hit his first career home run. On July 4 of that same season Ryan became the 4th member of the 3000 strikeout club when he struck out Cesar Geronimo of the Cincinnati Reds.
